Practicing with the Paramitas
One-Day Retreat with Gareth YoungSaturday, October 20, 2018, from 8:45 to 5:00
"Paramita", generally translated as "the perfections", is a formulation of six virtues which serves as a central approach to practice for many Buddhists. The six paramitas are generosity, discipline, patience, energy, meditation and wisdom.
"The Way of the Bodhisattva", a 7th/8th Century text by Shantideva widely used in Tibetan traditions, takes as its premise that the path to wisdom begins with serving and helping others. It applies the paramitas as the structure of this practice. This Red Clay Sangha one-day retreat will use this model to examine the paramitas as an important guide and approach to our practice.
Cost As with all of our in-town retreats, there is no charge, donations are accepted - and greatly appreciated, since Red Clay Sangha does have ongoing operating costs, including rent!Gareth Young is active in interfaith and social justice work. A couple of years after being ordained a Zen Buddhist priest, Gareth left formal Zen practice to co-found Red Clay Sangha, our Buddhist community. He is engaged with several other interfaith and social justice organizations, serving on boards and participating in grass-roots activism.
