"Refuge"

A one-day online meditation retreat with Shodo Spring

Saturday February 20, 2021

Traditionally Buddhists take refuge in Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha. We'll discuss what that can mean in this time of fear, when so many people are literally refugees and when anyone of us might join them. How do we find refuge, and how do we offer refuge?

In addition to leading the one-day retreat, Shodo will also be offering a dharma talk on the morning of Sunday Feb 21st, titled "Refuge"

About Shodo Spring

Shodo Spring is a Zen teacher and a Dharma heir of Shohaku Okumura Roshi. She is also an environmental activist, author, psychotherapist, and grandmother.  She led the Compassionate Earth Walk in 2013 and founded Mountains and Waters Alliance in 2015. Her study and teaching focus is on understanding and fully entering our relationship with all beings.

Practices
We will begin the day with an orientation to sesshin practice. If you are new to meditation practice and find the sitting periods too difficult, you are welcome to quietly take a break.

Please maintain silence. Please stay "muted" until called to speak.

Facility
This retreat will be held online via Zoom

Zoom Call Details A dedicated Zoom call event will be created and details provided to participants in advance of the retreat.

Lunch
There will be a one hour break for lunch. Participants are encourage to use the break mindfully and to make no plans for administrative or household tasks, but rather to eat a healthy (light vegetarian) meal in silence, and spend the balance of the break in meditation, silent walking, or sitting silently in reflection or observing nature

Cost

To secure a place on the retreat, we ask you to make a donation of $20, 100% of which will be directed as dana (generosity) to the teacher. Since this will not be a significant amount for the teacher, we ask you to consider a more substantial donation at the retreat. Personal finances and dana are never a barrier to receiving the dharma with Red Clay Sangha, and full scholarships are available from our accumulated fund.
