Engaging BODY and mind

A One-Day Retreat with Charli Vogt & Sally Landrum

Saturday, March 13, 2021, from 8:45 to 5:00

Engaging BODY and mind

"...let us say there are two approaches to studying the Buddha way: to study with mind and to study with body. To study the way with the body...means to study the way....using this lump of red flesh." -Dogen

This day of retreat will be focused on meditation using the body. These methods may be useful to people who have trouble sitting, but also, if you love sitting this retreat will help deepen it. How we exist in our body is deeply connected to our capacity for mindfulness. Our body is always in the present moment. The day will include seated meditation, yoga asana practice, walking meditation and mudra practice.

The yoga practice will be appropriate for all bodies and levels of experience, even beginners.

Sally Landrum

Sally Landrum became serious about her meditation practice a decade ago, following a retreat at Magnolia Grove, a Buddhist monastery in the Plum Village tradition. She quickly perceived how her yoga practice enabled her to sit on the cushion with increasing ease. Since earning her 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Certification in 2020, she is committed to sharing the benefits of yoga with others who hope to practice seated meditation with greater comfort, benefitting both body and mind.

Charli Vogt

Charli Vogt has been a spiritual seeker as long as she can remember. Taking her through the Lutheran Catechism, Pagan studies, Feminist spirituality and into Buddhism. She has been studying Buddhism intensely since 2007, when she received the precepts from Thich Nhat Hanh. During her time working as an RN and later as a Nurse Midwife, she recognized that the body is a vital part of any spiritual endeavor.

What to expect  This will be a full day of sitting and walking meditation practice, with time for group discussions. All are welcome, no previous experience with meditation required.
