New Beginnings

A One-Day (Hybrid) Retreat with Gareth Young

Saturday, January 14, from  9:00 to 5:00

January is a time we look back at the year just passed and forward to the year to come. We often accompany this time with new year resolutions, particular intentions, and other ways of anticipating where we are headed. For Red Clay Sangha and for Gareth this is also true with the new relationship of Gareth as Guiding Teacher. This retreat is a great opportunity for us to reflect on and re-energize our practice and intention for the new year, to let go of that which is not helpful to our practice, and to activate beginners mind.

Gareth Young is a meditation teacher and co-founder of Red Clay Sangha. He has maintained a committed meditation practice for over 20 years in the Zen and Vipassana traditions, and integrates over 10 years of interfaith engagement as well as teachings from Tibetan and Lotus Sutra traditions into his practice and life.

Gareth received dharma transmission in the Thai Forest lineage of Ajahn Chah, Jack Kornfield and Lisa Ernst. He lives in the Atlanta area with his wife and their dogs, chickens and bees and has two adult children.

What to expect

This will be a full day of sitting and walking meditation practice, with a dharma talk and a period of Q&A. All are welcome, no previous experience with meditation required.

Location

This will be a hybrid event, with attendance both at the physical space in Chamblee and on Zoom (link to be provided).

Covid Protocols

While there is no strict enforcement of Covid protocols, we ask that all are mindful of others. Specifically, if you plan to attend the retreat in person, please ensure that you are fully vaccinated, and that you self-test within 48 hours of the retreat.

Food

A vegetarian lunch will be provided on site.

Schedule

The event space (physical and Zoom) will be open at 8:45 for early arrival and welcome. There will be an introduction and orientation at 9:00 for approximately 15 minutes. A dharma talk will be offered by Gareth in the morning, there will be a Q&A period in the afternoon, and we will have a short movement period in the middle of the day. Lunch will be for approximately an hour. The balance of the day will be a combination of sitting and walking meditation.
