Living the Four Boundless Qualities
A One-Day Retreat with Gareth Young

The Brahmaviharas (The "Four Boundless Qualities", "Immeasurable Minds", or "Sublime Abidings") include the teaching of metta practice, but also contain so much more. They are one of the richest and most important of Buddha's teachings, which he uses both to direct our practice to opening our hearts to connect with suffering, and also to settling into concentration. In our day together we will explore the richness of this teaching and practice.
Gareth Young is a meditation teacher, a businessman, and co-founder of Red Clay Sangha. He has maintained a committed meditation practice for over 20 years in the Zen and Vipassana traditions. He received full teaching authorization in the Thai Forest lineage of Ajahn Chah, Jack Kornfield and Lisa Ernst. He lives in the Atlanta area with his wife and their dogs, chickens and bees. He has two adult children.
What to expect
We will alternate periods of sitting and walking meditation during the day. There will be a dharma talk in the morning, a one hour lunch break at midday, and a period of Q&A in the afternoon (detailed schedule to be provided on the day). All are welcome. And while participation for the full day is encouraged, for those who can only attend for a portion of the day, please feel free to do so - just be mindful of others, entering and leaving quietly. And if you would let Gareth know ahead of time your anticipated attendance, it would be helpful.
Cost There is no cost to attend this retreat. Donations to Red Clay Sangha are gratefully received.
