The Feminine Face of Buddhism:
Enlightenment and Beyond
One-Day Retreat with SoKai ShinRyu (Charli Vogt)
Saturday, February 17, from 9:00 to 5:00
The women of Buddhism have been hidden, denied and ignored for centuries. Western Buddhists are working to correct this. The men (many cultures did not allow girls and women to become educated) who wrote down the stories were embedded in a patriarchal society which devalued female contributions. In spite of that, there are stories about wonderful and powerful women who were students of some of the most well-know male teachers as well as serving as teachers of many others after them. We will begin to familiarize ourselves with the stories of these ancestors so that they can take their place along the ones we already know. The focus of the day will be on enlightenment and the experience of enlightenment.
This one-day retreat will offer sitting and walking meditation, a dharma talk and an opportunity for participants to engage in Q&A. It's open for registration now.
