In Person at the Sangha (Hospital Drive)
We’re eager to announce the next Mindful Moments Monthly event for August. This time, we will be watching the internationally awarded Japanese animation film The Tale of The Princess Kaguya from Studio Ghibli. As always, this event is open to the general public, and we highly encourage you to invite others to watch this treasured anime classic. The viewing will be held at Red Clay from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 10. Snacks and tea will be provided for the benefit of all beings.
About the Film
The Tale of The Princess Kaguya is a heart-warming story about a mysterious young woman inexplicably discovered amongst a bamboo forest and adopted by a poor, childless couple as their own daughter.
As this miraculous girl grows into a thoughtful young woman, she begins to draw the unwanted attention of several rich and powerful suitors beguiled by her heavenly beauty. The crux of this story arises when Princess Kaguya’s hope for a simple, authentic life conflicts with the societal pressure to pursue wealth, influence, and opulence. Over the course
of the movie, the princess must stave off the superficial desires of the men seeking to court her, leave her humble village of origin for the trappings of royalty, cope with the unequal expectations thrust upon women, and rediscover her mythical past. The themes underlying this complex and wonderfully illustrated film are centered around finding satisfaction in simplicity, focusing on meaningful relationships, and forging your own story in the face of social conformity.
