Full Mindfulness of Breathing
A Dharma Study Session with Gareth Young
Saturday, April 05, 2025, 9:30 to noon
In Person and on Zoom
Mindfulness of breathing, as described in the Anapanasati Sutta (Mindfulness of Breathing Sutta) from the Pali canon, is talked of as the practice the Buddha was engaged in on the night of his enlightenment. It is a central and foundational practice of Buddhism, not just in the traditions centered on the Pali canon, but across many others. In today's session Gareth will work through the sixteen steps of the Anapanasati Sutta, including looking both at how they inter-relate and how they relate to the Four Foundations of Mindfulness and to the Seven Factors of Awakening, both of which are alluded to in the same sutta. Gareth will also look at how mindfulness of breathing is used in other Buddhis traditions and at the inter-relationships.
