Service Project at Nicholas House
26 July 2025 from 11AM to 1PM
Description:
The members of Red Clay Sangha and Peach Blossom Sangha join in to help prepare and serve lunch to the families at the Nicholas House shelter. This is a beautiful opportunity to practice compassion and generosity to our local community alongside sangha friends.
Nicholas House was founded in 1982 by members of St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church in Atlanta, who opened their Sunday school rooms to families with nowhere else to sleep—addressing a crisis few were even acknowledging at the time. Recognizing that one night of shelter wasn’t enough, Nicholas House evolved into a nonprofit that now serves nearly 400 parents and children each year with wrap-around services tailored to families facing homelessness.
Its four core programs—an emergency shelter, permanent supportive housing, rapid rehousing, and housing stability support—address both immediate needs and long-term solutions, all guided by the goals of helping families earn a living wage, maintain their health, and secure stable housing. Families served by Nicholas House have lost more than just their homes—they’ve lost safety, health, and hope. Children suffer academically and emotionally, while parents face stigma, mental health struggles, and barriers to employment.
Nicholas House believes stable housing is foundational—not just a place to live, but the launchpad for healing, growth, and breaking the cycle of poverty. Learn more at https://nicholashouse.org/
